Belarus' programmer claims sixth title at Google Code Jam

Gomel-born post-graduate student of the Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics Gennady Korotkevich has won the Code Jam World Finals, Google's global coding competition, in San Francisco, BelTA learned from the website of the university.

It was his sixth championship title at this prestigious event. According to the university, no one has ever managed to beat this record.

Code Jam has been held since 2003. Every year it calls on over 50,000 programmers around the world to solve algorithmic puzzles against the clock. Only 25 contestants have the ultimate chance to win cash prizes and the championship title at the World Finals.

Gennady Korotkevich scored a total of 143 points, leaving behind Japan's Makoto Soejima (121 points) and Andrew He from the United States (121 points). The Code Jam champion walked away with a cash prize of $15,000.

Gennady Korotkevich graduated from the Gomel Gymnasium. He has won major international and numerous national competitions, such as Google Code Jam, Yandex.Algorithm, VK Cup, Russian Code Cup, Facebook Hacker Cup.
