Efficient government scheme to support talented youth in Belarus

Belarus has developed an efficient government scheme to support talented youth, Belarus' Vice Premier Igor Petrishenko said at a solemn ceremony to celebrate laureates and grant holders of the special funds of the Belarusian president, BelTA has learned.

"One philosopher said that talent is a spring that brings all the new and pure things to God. However, this spring dries up if it is not used properly. Our independent state needs talented and gifted young people. Belarus does everything to enable you to join the intellectual and creative elite of our country," Igor Petrishenko said. Belarus has developed an efficient system to provide government support for talented youth. This system aims to help the gifted and talented realize their full potential and reach new heights, he emphasized.

In 2018, Belarusian school students won 50 medals at international intellectual contests, including 5 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 26 bronze medals. "The gold medalists include Polina Bulavskaya, Aleksei Gorokhovsky, Timofei Fyodorov, and Aleksandr Kernozhitsky. They showed outstanding results at prestigious international scientific forums in the field of chemistry, biology, and information technology. Representatives of the creative youth also preformed successfully at international contests. Among the laureates of the president's special fund to support talented youth are real virtuosos who wowed the jury at international competitions," Igor Petrishenko noted.

He expressed gratitude to young and active Belarusians for their hard work. "Be worthy of our great ancestors who demonstrated unprecedented heroism and fortitude, which is quite relevant in the year when Belarus marks the 75th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. Be worthy of your teachers and parents. These wise and caring people open up this wonderful world of knowledge for you, invest their effort and share expertise, celebrate your achievements and help overcome difficulties," he noted.

Igor Petrishenko believes that the recognition by the government of the achievements of the talented and gifted youth will become an important impetus for them to move on.
